I'm posting this while we still wait for drums for "Crystal Liquid Ladies"

Donna wrote most of the lyrics, and I'm responsible for the music. Musically I wanted an ELO, Jeff Lynne, George Harrison feel.

Comical World

Lyrics by Donna Devine and LMK
Music by LMK

Hidin' your love in the sand
Runnin' in place where you can
Keepin' me waitin'
Just hesitatin'
Sometimes I don't understand

Why don't you try to be fair
One little sign that you care
You give me lovin',
Pushin' and shovin'
But still we're goin' nowhere

Chorus
And though we could be happy all of the time
Someone keeps you from me, you won't tell why
Oh girl
We're livin' in a comical world

You're only breakin' my heart
Something you've done from the start
All your denyin'
Sounds like you're lyin'
If so we should be apart

One of these days I'll get wise
Blockin' those come-hither eyes
Better start choosin'
Or you'll be losin'
This guy who won't compromise

Chorus
And though we could be happy all of the time
Someone keeps you from me, you won't tell why
Oh girl
We're livin' in a comical world

Solo

Chorus

And though we could be happy all of the time
Someone keeps you from me, you won't tell why
Oh girl
We're livin' in a comical world
We're Livin' in a comical world

This is great.
Indeed you captured the sound you were going for.
rock-n-roll ain't pretty --- that's why they picked us to play it.

Thank you very much  :)

I just realized I could probably do some more careful automation on the vocal in places, I'll do that soon...but the important thing is that the song is there, and the overall sound, I'm glad you like it!

The woman says "No, first a Gibson, then a fender."

Thank you very much Cyclone and Paulo

Cyclone, yeah the sound of it is an attempt at something similar to Traveling Willburys era Jeff Lynne

Doc, yeah I realized I didn't like the first solo sound that much in context with this style, you made me go back and rerecord it.

It needed to be a little less "line in", and more organic sounding...it now has less distortion, is a different guitar, an sm57 + amp.

The second part of the solo with the guitar harmonies I kept and only EQ'ed, because I liked how the sound changed for that part.

Thanks Mick...I realised that a big part of the ELO sound is super simple acoustic guitar strumming, played really tigtly. Most of Lynne's acoustics are done that way in the Tom Petty and Wilburys stuff too. And same state of mind with the drumming.

Very nice! It does have some light touches of ELO, especially during the intro, and a very good job mixing the drums IMO.

The early ELO sound was crap - lots of extreme distortion and overuse of phasers and flangers, and very poor overall sound (worse than the worst homerecordings I have ever heard), but then they developped a sound that I really love. Songs like "Confusion", "Telephone Line" or "I'm Alive" are still among my all-time favorites.

Regards,
  Steffen
