Howdy folks  :)

i posted this song on another site where personal criticisms are exchanged more openly

the lyric has (as i hoped) drawn a lot of attention, and i needed to clarify some stuff.

i figured i better add the reply here too.

this is NOT necessarily the opinion of my band-mates.

i take full responsability for the song's message (or lack there-of)

This is not a complex lyric, by any means. The song is summed up in the chorus, "let's put an end to hypocrisy"

How can an enlightened society criminalize something as benign as marijuana, while embracing alcohol and tobacco use.

Many over the counter medications can be as harmful, (or more harmful), to your mind and body than weed.

Compared with other countries, the United States has the highest incarceration rate in the world. As of 2006, a record 7 million people were behind bars, on probation or on parole, of which 2.2 million were incarcerated. The People's Republic of China ranks second with 1.5 million. The United States has 5% of the world's population and 25% of the world's incarcerated population.

In terms of federal prison, 57% of those incarcerated were sentenced for drug offenses. However, the federal prison population is a very small percentage of the massive state prison population, which also holds numerous people convicted of drug offenses. Currently, considering county jails as well, almost a million of those incarcerated are in prison for non-violent crime.

How many lives have been destroyed in the "war on drugs" over marijauna. A substance that is non-addictive and proven less harmful than alcohol.

The Hemp plant has so many beneficial qualities: oils, fibers, nutrients...

It's pure hypocrisy and stupidity, to wage war on such a valuable resource!!!

For over 40 years we've waged war on this plant, and if anything, it's become "more popular" than ever.

"Cannabis Economy" is not about legalizing dangerous toxic drugs

The major drug companies have already done that (small televised disclaimers) seem to work well for folks

The message of the song is in the chorus: "Spend all the money in the world, and this weed will continue to grow."

God simply made it that way!  8)

Cheers

Johnny
I am just saying I didn't understand the lyric and don't agree with legalized drugs.
Not knocking you for your opinion, just stating mine. I appreciate the disclaimer.
All that said, and all the comments and discussion on the other forum, I see what you
are saying and think you done a great job expressing your view.
There are too many things we have in common to focus on the things we disagree on.
Let's move on. ;)

Me... I'll sing about anything: the failing war against cannabis, lizard men living beneath the earth, greek gods, whatever...

I have sung a load of songs on MCS, and I have never turned one down because of the lyrical content, although I sometimes make small edits to the lyrics to make them fit better. I have only ever made one edit due to the content, and that was Johnny - the 'burning the Scrotums' line in "The Emerald Sea", which was discussed at the time - LOL!  ;D.

For me it's all entertainment: each song tells a story and I'm the story teller, I try to inhabit the story and tell it the best way I can, and then I'm on to the next one (that sounds like the lyrics from a song).  Jeez - I sound some sort of luvvy actor.  >:D

Johnny - you write a good story, and Bill and Marcel - you guys build a theatre of ROCK where I can tell it to greatest effect.

Guys - let's do another while we are hot?

@ Henry: Thank you for the book! i had not ever heard of it.

It's probably been banned (or burned) around these parts!  :-\

Sounds good tho', an i'll check it out 8)

@ Catfish: Thank you for listening and taking the time to comment!  >:D

Bill, it's all about how one defines "Drugs".

When i listen to the disclaimers on some of the drugs being promoted on TV these days.

it makes me shudder!

Anyway.., you are right!  We can agree to disagree, but

in these days of social networking,

i don't want any of you to have your reputations tarnished by me!

i like to write about things topical, and my veiwpoint is not always yours

Tho', i hope i can do it in a thoughtful way that "builds" bridges, and doesn't burn them...

Moving on!  8)

@ George! Thank you, my friend,

we've shared some amazing adventures for two fellas who have never actually met!

Here's to many more...(loved that Odin/scrotum line)  ;D

Cheers!  8)

Yeah..!  Love this one..great rocker.

GG your vocals just get better...Great voice for this type of song.

Everyone sounds tight and I think the drums lift it to another level, don't think I've heard Marcel before.

I'm also impressed with the mix, nothing too flashy but it just works and one of the few MCS songs that sounds better in mono than it does in stereo - it really kicks on my little speaker.

CD
We never finish a mix... we simply abandon them.
You can't polish a turd, but you can always spray paint it GOLD
Great songs are not written, they are re-witten
