One song, four slightly different versions, four guitarists! :) This was the thread in Studio "A":
http://www.musicianscollaboration.com/forum/index.php?topic=9308.0

What I Feel For You

Lyrics: Mike Basil
Composed by Steffen Offermann & Mike Basil

Vocals: Mike Basil
Drums: Todd Vierra
Guitars: Bill Gifford, Henry Mittnacht, Dwayne Vincent, Mark A. Shrider
Bass: Robert Stephen
Keys: Steffen Offermann

Mixed & Mastered by Steffen Offermann

The guitarists appeared as follows:

Version 1: Bill, Mark, Vince
Version 2: Bill, Henry
Version 3: Bill, Henry
Version 4: Bill, Mark, Vince

For version 4 Mark used my master of version 1 and added some parts on top of it. Give it a listen, it sounds great!

Regards,
  Steffen

i like all the versions.
each one has something i like about it that the other versions don't have.
version 2 has Bill's guitar right after the first chorus,
version 3 i love Henry's guitar in the chorus.
all the lead work on all the versions is great --- being a guitar player i like that sort of thing; which is why i did an enhanced mix of version 1. while i like the way version 1 was mixed & everything being a guitar player i just wanted the leads to sound a little more intimate & not so far way. I tried to add some of Bill & Henry's guitar to my mix but i think that was pushing it a bit & made it a little too busy...but...

...as for what i did was simply took Steffen's mix & just added my lead tracks & panned them to the left about 60% with some reverb (plug-in GlaceVerb with a vocal preset) & then added some reverb & eq on the end from the master bus (GlaceVerb final master preset & CS12 EQ mastering preset). So it's really Steffen's mix --- i just tried to make sure what i did blended with Steffen's mix without clashing. i thought it came out pretty good. But Steffen did the hard work.

oh, & i need to mention that on version 1 & 4 i really love what Vincent did in the chorus.

And, it should be noted how good the vox fit with each version.

I was glad to be a part of this --- it was a great introduction to the world of online music collaboration.

thanks...

Mark
rock-n-roll ain't pretty --- that's why they picked us to play it.

Mine too.

But I actually like them all - and the song is doing well at other places too. :)

loved all versions, couldn't really pick one over another, they all stand out in there own ways.

Fine guitar playing on all and fine mixes everyone of them.  8)

Really great vocals on this, as I was listening to it the name Joe lynn Turner spang to mind I had to google him to make sure he was who I though he was. He sang with Ritchie Blackmores Rainbow in the early 80s

Well done gents
Bobby

Great tune everyone. All the versions are top notch. I appreciate the opportunity to do my bass part. I had enjoyed playing it.

Wonderful job! Love the textures as the song progresses, particularly like the bass performance and treatment. Guitars sound great, right in the box! Mike's vocal is smooth and reminds me of the Doobie Brothers in places. Lovely song :)

Mick.
Very funny Spok ... now beam down my trousers.

I revisited the mix of V3 and tried to improve the sound of the drums, bass and vocals:

Hey Steffen this tune was done when my kick mic was going hay wire i think, are you having a hard time with getting some bottom end in the kick on this mix? it seems to be lost a bit. From here out i have bought a new shure 91A.

Yes, the kick was a little difficult, but I actually wanted it to be less heavy in the mix. Have I reduced it too much?

Is this version a little better?

Top notch. I missed this earlier.

Great work all round. The bass sound in particular is outstanding.
George can often be found playing stringy things, and singing...
