When exporting audio from sonar i have two differemt wave file choices. One is "wave" and the other is "microsoft wav" --- i notoced that the microsoft wav file is smaller than the regular wave file. Other than that is there any other differences i should be aware of? Does one add any space like mp3 does? Does one change the timing at all? Just wondering if using both file types interchangably would pose a problem in a mix...?...

Thanks...

Mark

Did some research and as far as I can see the Microsoft.wav format was used for Windows XP. I would just use the normal Wave format, the rest of us do and it works across all platforms.

I was wondering because i was using the microsoft.wav format to save space; especially for posting on here. The problem arose when trying to do a mix for what i feel for you. Tracks aren't lining up and wasn't sure if it's because of mixing regular wave files with the microsoft.wav format. So i'll try going back and export the regular wave format and see that fixes my issue.
Thanks again...

You don't want to be posting bare wave files anyway. We usually convert them to ape or flac, or any lossless compression format.

Yeah. I've been using .ape since lelarning about it. I had experimented with .wma and .wav and microsoft.wav because i noticed that they all exported from sonar at a different size and then were also different sizes when compressed to .ape.
microsoft.wav gave me the smallest file including when compressing to .ape.
i was just trying to save space.
been thinking about signing up for dropbox to save space here because sometimes it takes forever for files to upload.
i know just enough about this stuff to be dangerous   :D
i really appreciate the knowledge and help.
thanks...
