Mickbrit helped me fix my static issue but a latency issue seems to have crept in. I don't think I had that issue before. But I'm not 100% certain. Now this timing thing is driving me nuts. HELP!

Hi mate ... is your audio driver ASIO or WDM? If you go into Options > Audio you will either have a slider for WDM or numbrs in boxes fo ASIO. What you have to do is lower the latency settings, drag the slider to the left or reduce the latency figure. Always run the Wave Profiler after you have made the changes.

Let me know how you do.

Mick.

Does this latency problem only occur when you record outside the DAW (guitar, vocals, ...), or does it occur too when you record internal sources like VST instruments?

Regards,
  Steffen

I guess i'm not sure...exactly...
for the backing track i actually program everything using LMMS (i know sonar is supposed to be able to do that too but i'm so used to LMMS & it seems easier to me) & then export to .wav files & upload each one into Sonar & they all seem to be in time with each other. When i record my guitar it sounds in time when i'm playing/recording but the playback is when the guitar appears out of time. Oh, & the VST instruments are actually soundfonts...was having issues getting VST instruments to load & play & they would crash LMMS sometimes --- don't seem to have that issue with soundfonts.

when i open the options/audio this is what it looks like.
hopefully the pics are good enough for you to see what i see & can maybe tell me what to do.

oh wait...i just saw on the advanced tab that the driver mode is MME (32-Bit)
other options are:
WDM-KS
WASAPI
ASIO

does that help?

Thanks for the pics, I see the problem now. You need to be using the ASIO driver, not the MME driver. Switch it and you should be fine.

awesome Mick...

that appears to have worked.
it also fixed another issue i had...that was i had to record dry because effects...amp & reverb, etc couldn't be done in real time...now they can.
this is about to get fun again...

Cool beans. I looked up your interface and saw that it should run with an ASIO driver, your screen shots showed you were using WDM - which is about the worst driver you could use :)

i've always said that i know just enough about computers to be dangerous  :-[

i remember loading sonar in & it asked me about it & i had no clue what it meant so i let it do whatever the default was for everything.
sure glad i found this place & the help of you more computer recording savvy folks.
i was always afraid to change things because i didn't want to mess things up.

i just had it cranked up playing through my computer speakers (altec lansing --- they're actually pretty good) & it felt great to play feeling more like a ive performance rather everything dry & then add the guitar sound later...

i think i was freaking out my son & his girlfriend  >:D

thanks again...i cannot thank you enough...

one more quick question just to be sure...
on the side of my interface it has a switch that says "advanced driver" on or off --- i have it on...is that correct?

I haven't used that particular interface but if it's working ok then I would leave it on.

Thanks
I tried it both ways and didn't hear a difference so yeah I'll just leave it on.
you might get tired of hearing it but seriously I cannot thank you enough. This had been driving me so crazy that it was starting to not be fun but now the fun is back.
