Pt. I - done!

After a 8 weeks campaign of conquest with the best crew ever, this journey comes to an end and I'd like to thank all contributors and the outstanding and proven band I recorded "Crooked Man" with.

Working this song out was again great fun and the result justifies all efforts.
I think we all can be a little bit proud of what we've done.

So, thanks a lot again, good to have you guys.... counting on you, when the ship is leaving again for Pt. II (Northwinds), ;)

They laughed in the face of monsters:

  • FlooUK (Gary Pownall): Consultant
  • Guitar George (George Williams): Vocals
  • Glummi (Andreas Glummert): Bass, Guitars, Synth
  • Johnny (Johnny Williams): Lyrics
  • SnowDogUK (Michael Woodford): Fabulous Guitar Solo
  • Stonehead (Ian Burrage): Drums

  • Mix & Mastering: Glummi, with a huge help from SnowdogUK

And last but not least special thanks to MusoBass (Mike Mckinnon) for helpfulness, Inspiration and "Damn Whiskey", that accompanied me in the car several hundreds miles.... and counting.

Emerald Sea

(prologue)
In the glorious Hall of Valhalla
It's good we gather round
to re-cant our tales of valour
when our world knew no bounds
A thousand boys we were back then
so small beneath the trees
when all the tales of warrior men
began on the Emerald Sea...

(vs)
We hoisted sail and dipped our oars
In the eyes of a gibbous moon
said "farewell" to familiar shores
An' followed the ancient runes

Our blades are steel from the iron Earth
our Shields are oak & bronze
A thousand men of greater worth
You have never gazed upon

(ch)
We plowed our ships thru the emerald seas
To horizons yet unknown
Where lesser men would turn to flee
that's where our crew would roam
We laughed in the face of monsters
larger than any tree...
An' a world we did conquer
All around the Emerald Sea

(vs)
Traveling far from the Northern star
to isles of warmth and ease
We left the landscape battle-scarred
to satisfy our needs

Their corpses fed the carrion
on our pikes their heads did rest
they died crying, "Barbarians"
we showed them nothing less

(outre)
"We sacrifice to Odin their finest virgin flesh"

(Solo)

(outre)
From the land where Odin rests
"We are Odins blessed!"

(vs)
"Call the croon and give her some room
to cast the sacred bones"
beneath the light of a new, full moon
she spoke in rattled tones...

"Turn your quest to the west", she cried
"for glory and for gold"
"A savage horde will greet your swords
But a victory is foretold"....

(ch)
We plowed our ships thru the emerald seas
To horizons yet unknown
Where lesser men would turn to flee
that's where our crew would roam
We laughed in the face of monsters
larger than any tree...
An' a world we did conquer
All around the Emerald Sea

This is absolutely FanDAMNtastic!!
When it comes to "epic" themes and lyrics, I don't hesitate for an instant to recommend Johnny or Paul for the task. In this case, Johnny proved his worth in a fabulous collab that seemed almost never-ending at times.
I love the prologue George!! The music, the vocals, the lyrics... everything about this song is top notch and belongs in a soundtrack to a movie I would very much like to see!! 8) 8)

You guys have a great thing going on here, it may very well work its way into a whole album. :)
Damn it Jim! I'm a WRITER - not a Doctor!!

I am very proud indeed of this. What a crew and what a result.

As  teenager I loved rock epics such as Xanadu (Rush) and Stargazer (Rainbow), and now I've been part of creating one.

FANTASTIC!

George can often be found playing stringy things, and singing...

I can hear the screams and feel the deep tremble of fear coming from distant lands as our mighty ship crashes out across the black watery depths.

Nice to be on the love boat gents and a fine crew you are too .... Head spitter Axe and Horned Helm ready for the next stage of the saga

Cheers

Ian

Sounds great! And I love the background vocals. This sounds really cool!!  8) Could be a theme song for a cartoon show. Like He-Man or something, lol
