This is the first part of a 3 part suite - Frozen Strings. Paul was originally inspired to write after watching a video that I uploaded. The inspiration then jumped to Andy who came up with the original music. George jumped on board with his powerful voice and I added some noodling.

We all sincerely hope that you enjoy the result.

Lyrics : Paul (PVD)
Music, Bass, Drums and Strings : Andy (AndyG)
Vocals and Melody : George (GuitarGeorge)
Guitars and Mixing : Mick (MickBrit55)

A big thank you goes out to Mark (CD) for his helpful comments and support during the mixing stage. Cheers mate :)

Frozen Strings

(v1)
The white is so blinding but I can't close my eyes
My guitar speaks in hurried phrases for fear of freezing
My fingers are numb but they keep playing on
The sounds echo off the ice and are so, so pleasing

(v2)
Follow my movements through an icy fortress
The frost gods have left the music frozen in the snow
I can feel it through the strings freezing my soul
The air is standing still, even the wind cannot blow

(chorus)
So hurry now
It's something you've never felt
Don't worry now
Coz it will never melt
Listen as my guitar sings
Wondrous things played on frozen strings, on frozen strings

(bridge)
The cold speaks through the whispering wind
I can feel the icy touch so deep within
As it wraps around me and covers my skin

(v3)
Watch the moon bow down to this glorious sound
There's no choice but to surrender to the chilly night
Let the cold grab you now, it will keep you warm
As you move through the many shades of white

(chorus)

Hi Mick,

Good to see this one completed. Paul and George excelled with the lyric and singing, but you should take a bow for ably skippering the ship across the frozen wasteland - your contributions on guitar, overall sonics, effects and mixing made this song wonderful to listen to!!

Great job again.

Cheers
Andy

Thanks mate, but CD's help was invaluable. He pushed me to put in that important last 10%. All the performances were first rate so it made the mixing easier :)

Well done guys, nice performances all around - the final mix sounds much more like a 'song' than a collection of parts...it's the last 10% effort that can make it sound 50% better  >:D

It has a nice atmosphere now without sounding like you're in a cave.

Look forward to part 2

We never finish a mix... we simply abandon them.
You can't polish a turd, but you can always spray paint it GOLD
Great songs are not written, they are re-witten

I second what Mark says. And I love your "noodeling"! ;)

I'd probably prefer the vocals a little less upfront, but the mix is very good as is. I did not expect that when I listened to a progress mix in Studio "A". But progress mixes are progress mixes. ;)

Perfect job by everybody. I'l love to hear George's vocals more often (and your guitar which is killer as usual).

Andy has a good hand for great music. I like all his compositions.

Regards,
  Steffen

Thanks Mark and Steffen, really means a lot to me on your comments for the mix. Seems like a slow process before you make any inroads into mixing properly. I think this tune is a milestone for me, mostly because now I can hear where I went wrong with my older mixes :)

By far the best "tool" I had for the job was working with great guys that came up with excellent performances. Made my job a lot eassier. Thanks again for listening.

Everyone:

This turned out great, I am so impressed how this sounds both with George's vocal and Mick's hard work on the mix.
Excellent experience for me, from Andy's originally compostion as well as the discussions on the lyric.  We'll have to send it to that violinist in that wonderful video that prompted the lyric.

Tks for letting me watch from a distance.

Paul

OK.. That was a very cool song. Top notch stuff guys. George really sounds great on this and I love that Floyd type of guitar story telling. The song really builds and it really kept my interest as it went along. One of the better tunes here I would say. Sounds great!!  8) 8) 8)

Thank you Dave, I'm glad you enjoyed the listen and your comments are very much appreciated. Yeah, who would have thought 6-7 months ago that George had that great big voice eh? lol. He nails it every time too.

WOW! Awesome!. Moving song. Love it all around. Bass is awesome, Andy.  8)

Thanks for listening Tricia :) Andy's bass is killer on this song ... but he is a serial killer on part II.
