Hey all, Here's a country tune about a man with a love hate relationship with whiskey. I know there are a lot of country songs written on this subject, but still I thought I'de put in my 2 cents
. It's based on a true story told to me by an old boy I met outside the food bank in the little town I live in. He was sitting on the sidewalk with a bottle of Jack in his hand, and as I sat down next to him just to visit, he looked at me and said "this damn whiskey!" Then he proceeded to tell me all about it. Since I'de been in his shoes at one point in my life, I thought I'de write this little tune. I hope you enjoy it.
All my gratitude goes to the wonderful collaborators on this tune! PLAYERS: Henry Mittnacht/Docmidnight: Telecaster
Al Bacon/Catfish: Hammond B3
Tom Diemer/TomD: Pedal Steel
Mike McKinnon/Musobass: Acoustic guitar, Vocals, Harmonica,
Slide, Bass, Percussion, and mix
Damn Whiskey This damn whiskey, in my hand
Keeps me out, of the promise land
It's like a gun, at my head
But I'll be drinking whiskey, till I'm dead.
The preacher told me, I had to stop,
He said "there aint no drunkard, goin' up"
But I just laughed, and told him "hell no"
Cause if there aint no whiskey, I don't want to go
I get up in the morning, and fill my glass to the top
Then all day long, I do it over again
Then at night, I pass out
From too much damn whiskey
When I'm feeling guilty, old Jack's right by my side
But try hard not to judge me, cause you aint in my skin
But if you were, you'd go find
Some more damn whiskey
Well I had a wife, and I had a house
I had a job, and I have a son
But now I'm livin', under Caney bridge
And I'll be drinkin' whiskey, long as I live
Hey! you wanna pass that bottle over here?!
Oh come on man!
