This is an old thread!

I just picked up MixBus and like it. I didn't get the no-brainer deal for $40 bucks, missed it. But the have a new no-brainer. Newest mixbus and the essential pack license $60.

I may try it out again.

I need a video tutorial or something.

Buddy finally shuts up and mixes at 4 minute mark in this video.

I still don't use HMB for mixing (Ardour is a pain in the ass IMO), but I run all my final masters through the channel strips, and the saturation does improve the sound noticeably.

The only problem is that it does not support Rewire, so I have to use a system-wide installation of Jack which makes the whole audio setup rather instable. Every few minutes it has to be re-initialized.

You may as well save the hassle and use a saturation plugin in your major DAW
We never finish a mix... we simply abandon them.
You can't polish a turd, but you can always spray paint it GOLD
Great songs are not written, they are re-witten

I do (and I have some great ones), but Mixbus is special in that respect. It does make a huge difference (I sometimes let people decide which mix/master they like better without telling them which is which - and they ALWAYS choose the Mixbus version).

We should do a test / saturation-mix-off  :)

Have you got a master before & after. Post up the unprocessed Ape and let me run it through for comparison.

It depends...

Sometimes Waves NLS...other times something like Satson or a couple of others, sometimes it's just a distortion plugin on a send/return buss with some EQ to taste.

It varies from song to song and what works well on one doesn't always work on another

Yep, same here - different songs need different treatments.

But for distortion I like Soundtoys "Radiator" on almost everything. :)

On stiff, lifeless drums "Decapitator" can do a very good job.

For saturation I use Softubes "Saturation Knob" on the stereo bus when I mix in Studio One. In Cubase I use the Bootsy plugin whose name I always forget. ;)

And a couple more ...

And on the master, of course, HMB.
