This is a nice little pop ballad based on a lyric by Paul (PVD).

Here is the original thread in Studio "A":
http://www.musicianscollaboration.com/forum/index.php?topic=8621.0

Vocals: Errol Chugg
Lyrics: Paul Dempsey
Backing Vocals, Guitars: Henry Mittnacht
Bass: Andy Gupta
Composed, arranged & mixed by Steffen Offermann

I'll post the lyrics later as the original lyric has been modified, and I have yet to write down the correct version.

Unless Errol or Paul post it ... :)

Thanks to everybody! This turned out really nice. Henry, your backing vocals were the icing on the cake! And Errol, somebody said you sounded like Robbie Williams on this song. Not bad, eh?! :)  8)

Edit: Here is the lyric. Thanks, Paul!

I Can't Change How I Feel
by Paul Dempsey

(v1)
Watching you grow to a fine young woman
I've done my best to raise you strong
Although it is from a greater distance
I'll watch you still for however long
And when harsh winds begin to blow
And when your skies are turning black
I'll be right there for you
I'll always have your back

(v2)
Now that you're facing the real world
There's one lesson I hope you learned
Be cautious of the people you might meet
Don't give away trust until you know it earned
And when the thunder starts to roar
And when you feel under attack
I'll be right there for you
I'll always have your back

And when the thunder starts to roar
And when you feel under attack
I'll be right there for you
I'll always have your back

 (v3)
Know that true friends won't let you down
Remember true love is worth pursuing
But long term hate can only destroy you
And surely would be to your undoing
And if you're feeling all alone
For you I'll cut a little slack
For I'll be right there for you
I'll always have your back

Regards,
  Steffen

Hi gang,

This turned out great!! You guys were wonderful.

Errol's vocals suited this perfectly.

Steffen, your arrangment and melody are lovely. Henry - those guitar textures are so spot on, as are your backing vocals.

Paul another well written lyric in the bag!

Andy

Guys:

This is really a well done song, I will always think of my daughter when I hear it.  It always amazes me how different people's input can enhance and influence the final song so much.  This is a great example of that.
Thanks all it is always a pleasure to be involved.

Paul

Having the opportunity to be involved in a song with people so talented as Steffen, Paul, Andy and Henry is huge privilege for me. Thanks very much guys for letting be in on this one. (and as for the Robbie Williams mention  - I could only wish!) Really happy how this turned out.
 :)

Nice song guys, it has such a nice, easygoing feel to it, but at the same time there's also lots going on in the mix. 8) 8)

Here is a little update based on some feedback I got. I used a different compressor on a couple of tracks to achieve a smoother sound.

Edit: Moved to first post!.

hey Steffen,

I like this new mix version a lot! For one, the lovely piano part is more discernable. What else did you tweak?

Maybe you should place this mix in the first post along with the one already up?

Will do, Andy.

I did not do much more than what I said: Replace the compressor on a couple of tracks. I just bought the Softube FET compressor, and that baby is pure gold. Very musical - I fell in love with it right away.

Now I want the Brainworx Vertigo VSC-2 next. :)

For some reason this song just makes me feel good.
I totally love Errols vocals and the lyrics are so beautiful, too!
Everything just falls into place when the song is good, from Andys bass runs to the saxophone bits.

Steffen, your skills in composing and mixing are getting stronger and stronger!

Thanks for letting me a part of it! :)

Henry, my songwriting has not changed much over the years. It's a mere question of support - I cannot do anything at all without the help of good musicians like you.

So let me thank you instead. And I hope we'll do some more tunes together in the future.

Guys this is a wonderful song! And wonderful lyrics. My own daughter lives far away from us, she lives now in Nice, France...this song touches my heart.

I listened yesterday at another place for the first time this song and I told Steffen "very nice song Steffen, GREAT vocals, who is the singer???"
And Steffen anwered me "That's Errol". Wow Errol, your vocals are fantastic!

Kudos to you all!

Thanks very much Holger. I don't ever think of myself as a singer so compliments always come as a surprise. Maybe I'll try to sing a few more songs.  :)
Meanwhile, your koala icon makes me feel somewhat homesick.   ;)

Really beautifull... Errol said once that he can't sing, he said that he sounds like a duck, or something... Then I'm Santa Claus... You sing great, my friend.

Lovely tune, I'd say.

Lyrics are just great... Oh it's from Paul, now go wonder!!!... All the other stuff fills in a simple way, just what is needed.
Live the best you can 'cause you're gonna be dead for a long time.

Thanks! Well I got back there for 10 days about 15 months ago. Not nearly long enough. Not sure when I can do it again. Hopefully not too long.

And thanks to you too  Paulo. I think I compared myself to Kermit the Frog. I guess we often are the harshest critics of ourselves. I very much appreciate the kinds words.  :)
