If anybody had any doubts about the musical GENIUS who goes by the unassuming name of "Billy".... well, after you give this song a listen I dare ANYONE to try and deny that Billy is MCS royalty!! 8)

As an added feature on this song, Billy recruited his wife to give the ending a nice little twist that fits perfectly.
So listing the credits on this will be nice and tidy.

EVERYTHING by Billy... Mrs. Spaceman performed by Mrs. Billy... lyrics by me.

This Baby needs to be listened to in a planetarium or in a big stage production!!  Though I may be a little biased. :)

Enjoy :) 8)

Dream Mr. Spaceman

V1
Countdown to blast-off, I'm strapped into my chair
Headed for Saturn, will sleep for seven years...
I.V.'s and Deep Freeze is how I will survive
Seven years in a coma - then wake when I arrive

V2
So hard to put all my trust in ground control
Saying I'll dream till we reach our final goal
They like to brag, in their hands no one has died
Seems I recall Major Tom's not satisfied...

Chorus
Dream Mr. Spaceman... about some other world
When you're in dreamland you always get the girl
Dream Mr. Spaceman... cause now it's all you got
Floating through space in your cold and sterile cot

1st Solo

V3
Here in my dreamworld... my life is oh so fine
A lovely home, 2 kids in school, and such a pretty wife
Wonder what life is like, if your life is a dream
Could you ever tire, of blue skies and ice cream

V4
And though 5 years had passed, it seemed like just day three
Ground control decided that they must awaken me
Without a warning, I was taken from my dream
As I began to vanish, I heard my kids and wife all scream

Chorus
Dream Mr. Spaceman... about some other world
When you're in dreamland you always get the girl
Dream Mr. Spaceman... cause now it's all you got
Floating through space in your cold and sterile cot

V5
Seems that my ship is broke - I have just 30 days
The engines then, will overheat, and I'll die in the blaze
But there's still one more choice, to cut the engines free
In hyper-sleep, they say I'll keep, for near infinity

V6
So with my duct-tape and my little box of tools
I worked to free the engines, and break free of all these fools
I told ground control - it's time to cut the engines free
As soon as I'm adrift in space, I'm going back to sleep

2nd Solo

Chorus
Dream Mr. Spaceman... about some other world
When you're in dreamland you always get the girl
Dream Mr. Spaceman... cause now it's all you got
Floating through space in your cold and sterile cot

hey John and Billy,

This is so lovely an absolute treat to listen to!!! Very 1972 :).

Nice story line. Billy's composition and performances are first rate - as usual ::).

The ending is a nice touch.

Have you watched Duncan Jones's Moon with Sam Rockwell - if you havent you should!! It's as poignant as this one.

Great stuff into the i-pod!
Andy

Thanks Andy, I googled "Moon" and from all the interviews and great reviews, I'm gonna have to see if I can find the movie somewhere. 8)
Maybe Billy has the right idea here, about bringing the wife into the studio... makes it harder for them to complain about all of us spending too much time there. ;) ;D
Everyone I've had listen to this, can't believe it's nearly 8 minutes long - they all say it plays much quicker than that. I'm still not sure how Billy makes 8 minutes seem only like 5. :)

John, Im sure you can rent the movie...thats what we did last week.

"8 into 5" sounds like a decent title for a song :)

Here is a few off-site comments about the song Billy:

RC says: "Absolutely amazing. So much to comment on - the story told in the lyric takes the whole Space Oddity thing to another level - the fab melodies - that twist in the chord prog for the chorus is just brilliant - the verses where the bass is not playing the tonic, I love that if it's done right, and it's done *so* right - great emotive vocal without going over the top... And that's just scratching the surface. It's all just amazing."

T.C. says: "wow... nearly epic. I saw the 8 minutes and was thinking, 'oh, great....' but I listened all the way through and it definitely kept my interest and more. I like the added vox at the end and the fade out is cool as well. Very well done, I know I wouldn't have gotten anything nearly this good."

Nadia says: "John and Billy! There are no words to express how much I love your work! Billy I always admire your amazing talent and every collaboration we had I treasure in my heart. Your work is always amazing and always so heart-moving. John, I love your songwriting and I absolutely love what we created together. You are a fantastic team John and Billy. How wonderful to hear your amazing song. Do you know, I never even felt it was 8 minutes. When it finished I started to listen to it again. I could listen to it day after day and every time find something new. It is a great work! Thank you both so much for the pleasure of listening to your fantastic song. Love the lyrics, the music, the orchestration, the vocals delivery, the atmosphere..."

Wonderful sound, seperation and production. It beats me how you guys get such a clear, clean sound.
Another great job. Real class and a pleasure to listen to.

Nice track, expertly done...didn't seem like it was 8 minutes long.

CD
We never finish a mix... we simply abandon them.
You can't polish a turd, but you can always spray paint it GOLD
Great songs are not written, they are re-witten

As you know, I'm a big fan of Billy's 'epics'.  ;)  This is another beauty to be notched up.
Wonderful, atmospheric music from Billy, and a really fine lyric from you, John.
First-class performance and production (and a special nod to 'Mrs Spaceman'  ;) ).

John, I saw 'Moon' several months ago. A gorgeous movie.

Yeah I loved it too.  I think Duncan Jones made the right call changing his name from Zowie Bowie too  ;D

Did you see his next movie Source Code, also very good.

Very cool. It's almost but not quite  ;D Pink Floydish. I could see the band doing a number like this. Great tune Billy & John.  8) 8)
