This is version 1 of "No One Cares". There is another version with Holger singing, but he wants to redo his part, so it isn't finished yet. I'll post that version in a separate thread when it is available.

Thanks to everybody who helped bring this thing to life! And thanks for your patience with me! :)

This is the original thread in Studio "A" (which is not closed  because Holger's version isn't complete yet):

NO ONE CARES

Lyrics: Paul Dempsey
Lead Vocals: Mark Lee Fletcher
Backup Vocals: Andy Gupta, Henry Mittnacht
Whistling: Holger Bremer
Bass: Andy Gupta
Drums: Alberto Villa
Percussion: Alberto Villa, Henry Mittnacht
Guitars: Henry Mittnacht, Bobby Clohessy
Solo Guitar: Mike Woodford
Composed, arranged & mixed by Steffen Offermann

When I was younger
I had a hunger
I'd eat and then run
No lessons learned
Just bridges burned
The damage was done

When I got older
I still didn't shoulder
Love's heavy load
I picked up many
And discarded plenty
I walked a twisted road

Chapter by chapter
In between the covers
I ran through life
And ran through lovers
Far too many affairs
Then I discovered
There's no postponing
Being alone ... and
Finding ... no one cares

To the ladies I made cry
Please pardon me if I
Never cared enough
What was on my mind
Was leaving you behind
For me it wasn't tough

When doors start to close
I can only suppose
You get what you give
And if I could go back
I would like to retract
The way I chose to live

Regards,
  Steffen

Hey Steffen,

Great to see this one in the finished section.

This is definitely one of your best tracks, with a fine mixing job.

Every contribution is first rate as evident by the fact the song breathes nicely in spite of the large no of tracked parts.

Paul's lyric is great and I think it was a right step in making the sound "tongue in cheek" rather than outright mournful or maudlin!!

I had a lot of fun doing this and thanks for letting me loose on board :)

Hey Guys:

This was great to watch develop, it flows so well with so many players involved.  Steffen, thanks for giving this one a chance early on.  And I agree with Andy, your light treatment was a good direction, dispite the topic.
Mark's vocals and the BUV really make this a smooth song.
Tks all.

Paul

great little song Steffen, great work from you all. Congrats, I'm glad to see this song finished!
You know, a few guys told you that it sounds funny. I agree, it has this "always look on the bright side of life" feeling.

Holger's whistling is on this version too, so don't forget to add his name.

Thanks, Paul!  And thanks guys, for letting me sing. :)

Nice job everyone... I particularly like Paul's lyric and Mark's execution of the vocal.... I also really like Holger's vox too and the whistling is perfect at the end. Nice mix/production Steffen.

This is fantastic in it's laidbackedness ???
The credits read like a who's who of MCS and the end result is pure ear candy!

Thanks everybody! :)

Here are a couple more opinions from off-site:

Karumba:
Mix feels good - I'd deess the lead vocal at the top. For criticism on the arrangement I'm not the right person, and to be honest, I'm currently too lazy to listen to it analytically in full length. I hope somebody with a notion will do so. :)

DerGipfel:
Certainly an uncommon style for the forum. A bit beatles-like (When I'm 64), but with a special vocal. I think the tonal character is great, and also the almost too relaxed way of singing. I do not personally like the falsetto backup vocals too much. Sounds somewhat cheesy, almost like a satire. The mix is hard to judge on my speakers. Cool guitars, btw.

The structure is unusual to me. The falsetto vocals in the intro made me expect that the theme would reappear as a chorus. But there is actually only an alternation of verse and bridge instead (at least that's how it feels to me).

And I'd be interested in the lyrics, I haven't paid so much attention to them.

The song has something special for sure, and I like it especially because of the retro vibe it has.

hopoh:
I think the song has something ... more at the second listen than at the first time. The background somehow reminds me of 10CC in the 80s. It could (for my taste) have a little more suspense, more dynamics, especially regarding the drums. They are top notch mixing-wise, but a little bit too laid-back with respect to style and room position, if you know what I mean.

The mix in general is very good, very clean and clear (will I ever get there?). But for me a little bit too defensive, like I explained above. The quarter note keys are too much midi-like (too dry), and the tone is partially very high. The guitar feels better, has more life, but seems too far away from the rest. The mix is super clean, sure, for me almost a little too clean. Mabye a bit dirtier, bolder (e.g. the quarter keys with a slightly distorted guitar), or bring up the drums.

The vocal, background and guitar is super. Fits well.

Ok, that's it - I'm not a pro, just a hobbyist. I hope you can make something of it.

P.S: The reason why you don't get many replies may be that in this forum main stream songs (I just put it in that category) have a rougher ride. I know that too ...

LM18:
Good mix so far.

The lead vocal indeed stands out here and there, but then again not so much that it should alarm you. Fits.

Good job, stoman! :)

SwanSong:
Hi Stoman an honor to comment. first. really nice feel from
this song. sort of a 70 s flavor. love those keys. and great
team work over all. this deserves a bump and radio air play
CHEERS NEIL !

T.C. Elliot:
Nice and bouncy.. that bass line really works with the keys to keep it a bit light. It's got some classic sounds but doesn't really sound dated at all...
Nice touch at the end with the whistle.

launched:
Fantastic assembly of great talent! I loved the Beatles/Jeff Lynne/BBoys vibe put on here. The backing vox were fantastic - The intro had a nice tight blast to it. I wanted more of that...

Sweet tune!

Mark

Redler:
I expected something like that; catchy, well produced and performed music! The tune could be a classic from the 70's! Nice composition and arrangement, Steffen! Very professional job by the band!

Kari

maxit:
aha! I'm getting smarter, I have doubled my Iexplorer window, so I can comment while listening, and say... WOOOOOOWWWWWWWOWOWOWOWO what is this, a bacharach killer song ? It is really delicious, what a pleasure. Perfect arrangement, and wonderful playing. I like it being a double face song - if you read the lyrics alone you could imagine a sad song, but - wow, there is still sweetness and somehow humor instead (this is changing the meaning in a beautiful way), flying high and light just like the best B.B. songs.

slideede (shortened):
Well, I do agree that the piano is too static, and the background vocals are almost a bit importunate. The guitar surprised me - I haven't heard such a Mutron sound for ages. I also don't know if that tremolo run is really necessary. But those are just typical guitarist attitudes.

Funnily though it all fits well together in summary. The whole is once again more than the sum of its parts.

The song has a bit of that detached, optimistic "Singing in the rain" - feeling. It is really pleasant to listen to.

OptimusPrime (shortened)TexterBernd:
Funny - music, arrangement (late Beatles - Paul) and lyric! Nice, transparent sound.
