This song has been lying around on the home stretch for quite a while. A couple of people contributed mixes, and the song was actually completed, but I have never been quite satisfied with my own mix because I could not find the right concept for it - so I kept tweaking and tweaking ...

Finally I made up my mind and decided on the mixing style posted here. I'm posting all the available other mixes too, so you can pick the one you like best - they are all very different in style.

This is the original thread in Studio "A":

CRYING IN THE RAIN

Vocals: Domenico Mercurio
Lyrics: Noel Downs
Guitar: Bobby Clohessy
Bass: Michael McKinnon
Drums: Alberto Villa
Composed, arranged & mixed by Steffen Offermann

A lonely man just standing,
wile The rain is pouring down,
All alone in a lonely street,
Stranded in a no place town.
No comfort in remembering,
When all he sees is loss,
Gloomy skies no future,
Where has the sunshine gone.

Cars drift by like memories,
Each one brings new pain.
Soaking him in passing,
He's crying in the rain.
No-one sees the tears,
He's not trying to hide,
And a broken friendship
never really mends.

Lights of a late night cafe,
Blink inviting him in,
Another unseen shelter,
From the bitter, icy wind,
A choking lump weighs heavy,
Where the lonely heart still beats,
It's as empty as the beer can,
Rattling down the street,

Cars drift by like memories,
Each one brings new pain.
Soaking him in passing,
He's crying in the rain.
No-one sees the tears,
He's not trying to hide,
Like a broken friendship
it never really mends.

He's blinded by self pity
So bleak it'll leave a stain
All he can see is darkness,
So he can't face the day,
No one will ever answer,
Any of his questions why ,
She had already left him,
Before he saw the signs.

Cars drift by like memories,
Each one brings new pain.
Soaking him in passing,
He's crying in the rain.
No-one sees the tears,
He's not trying to hide,
Like a broken friendship
it never really mends.

Yes, it's interesting to see how different people have different sonic visions for the same song. I'd love to hear more alternative mixes of the songs posted here.

Over at the German sites where I am a regular, people often post their seps to get as many different mixes as possible. The folks who dabble on it, have different skills and different visions, and thus everybody can learn from each other that way.

I miss such opportunities here.

Thanks, Adam, for contributing a mix to this song! And also thanks to Mimmo and the rest of the gang for helping to make this song turn out like it did.

Regards,
  Steffen

Yeah, I think they do that at Kompoz too.

All the mixes sound good to me, in their own way, thus proving there can always be many versions of the same song  :) I enjoyed doing this one and following its progress to the end  8)

Cheers

Thanks for listening, Nick!

And Bobby, I hope we'll hear you more often soon again. And in the very unlikely case that you'll ever find yourself wanting to play some nice lead guitar on a song and don't have one at hand, drop me a note! I have plenty that could use your talents. :)

Mimmo, great vocal performance, as usual! You and Noel were the ones who saved the song from oblivion after the original lyricist had decided to disappear. And, honestly, the new lyric is a lot better than the original one IMO.

Thanks to Michael for adding the bass. Many songs of mine must do without a bass because nobody wants to do it. But a real bass played by somebody who knows how to do it really makes a big difference.

And Alberto, what would this song be without your drums?! If I could I would book you for all my songs because you always know what a song needs. And I really mean that - I'm not one who makes false compliments.

It was a big pleasure to get several different mixes with different sonic visions for this song. This does not happen very often at this site.

Regards,
  Steffen
