hey guys,
 :)
this is a mix of "black night" which I played live with my tribute band "Purple Smoke" which features me on vocals.

I would be glad to get some overall feedback. If we are on the right track we would take these adjustements as a basic for all the other songs.

Thanks in advance!!

Regards,
Alex

Sounds great Caine. 8) 8)
I don't think I could give you any useful feedback, as I'm not a musician, but everything sounded quite right to me.

Welcome to MCS. :) :)

Cheers,

John

Sounds decent Caine...whos doing the mixing?

Be fun to try a mix of this live stuff...know some other mixers that would like trying a mix as well...I think the mix could be polished up nicely...The playing sounds pretty tight so I could see it turning out really well with some experienced mixers taking a crack at it.

Sounds good, you're in better shape than Ian Gillan these days  ;D

Great band you got there... Not easy to follow Jon Lord and Ritchie Balckmore but, those guys you got there, are just right for the Job. The drummer is great too, follwoing Ian paice's path is not easy, either.

All in all, you got a great Tribute band.

Agreed with Vincent, the mix could be better but maybe you can't do better than that, due to the available material, I don't know.

Now a little detail man... I went to your page and listened to all the 3 covers and I also saw the banner picture you got there  >:(...

... I've got a band called White Smoke, all we do is original stuff but look at our banner:

Gee!!! It looks like we copied each others but we did not  :o

Live the best you can 'cause you're gonna be dead for a long time.
Respect

hi fellows,

first, thanx a lot for the nice feedback which make me very happy :-)

@vincent: our keyboarder did the mix. he is actually very good at that but I think he's cool enough to give another one a shot at it.
however, as far as I can judge, there is not much room for tweaking. blending between microphones was very high so there were clear limitations.

@Paulo: Thanks fpr the nice words. I feel sorry for the coincidence. However, our myspace-page is more like a draft at present. we might change the background as well. it will look more like www.purple-smoke.de, which is our main site.

Great performance, Alex!

The mix sounds pretty good to me for a live take. There are always different options to try, of course, but there's nothing wrong with this mix IMO.

Hey Caine

Sounds like a great live band to me .... The recording is fantastic the only slight tweak if possible would be  to try and reduce the curse of the open hihat ,,, as a drummer myself I know those buggers over power every open mic .... What you have here is great but personally I would try and reduce/screen them a tad

Sounds fun

Ian

Sounds super tight , and the vocals are great.  Mix is pretty good for a live one too.

CD
We never finish a mix... we simply abandon them.
You can't polish a turd, but you can always spray paint it GOLD
Great songs are not written, they are re-witten
