Chasing Clouds

John Scunziano (Mr Mom): lyrics
Andy Gupta (AndyG): music, acoustic guitar, organ, bass
Steve Smith (Albino): drums
Andy Doherty (Docca3): lead guitar
Chuck Hayes (CHHayes): lead and backing vocals
Mark Morgon-Shaw (CD) : mix/master

This song began like so many others do, with a rejection. Maybe not a rejection, so much as a misunderstanding.
I naively offered up a few lyrics to a tune Paulo played by Sebastian Bach, not realizing it wasn't an original melody.
Naturally, when Paulo explained this to me, I knew that was the end of that idea.

What I like is that this could have been my "dark cloud" with these lyrics,  and I could have simply discarded them or left them in the dark corners of MCS where nobody looks. Instead, I reposted them without music - and AndyG came along and put a silver-lining on that cloud with his melody, which was then followed by a rainbow of colors(AndyD with his sweet electric, Steve with his best Ringo impression, Chuck with his golden voice, and Mark the master mixologist).
I like using that rainbow analogy - at the beginning of the rainbow was that brief audition for Paulo, then the song seemed to progress in a big arch, where we continued to build momentum, then it felt for a while like it lost some steam, only to finish with this pot of gold at the end.

So to put things in perspective, here is the other end of the rainbow, to see where it all began and where it almost ended:

...and here is our Pot of Gold

Chasing Clouds

(V1)
I spent my life... avoiding rain clouds
I've searched for sunny days... oh yeah.
And then you came... just like a rainbow
And chased those dark clouds away.

(Chorus)
Chasing clouds across the meadow...
On a bright and sunny, sunny day.
All my life I was so lonely
Until the winds blew you my way

(V2)
Found myself... gazing skyward
As a dark cloud, passed on by
When it blocked... the sun from shining
That silver-lining... made me cry

(Chorus)
Chasing clouds across the meadow...
On a bright and sunny, sunny day.
All my life I was so lonely
Until the winds blew you my way

(Bridge)
I never asked the Lord for a helping hand
In Fact, I seldom ever pray
But now I send my praise right up to Heaven
For helping take my pain away

(V3)
All my life... I've been so lonely
Been so lonely now...  been so gray
But you gave... so many reasons
To chase those dark clouds away.

(Outro)
To chase those dark clouds away
To chase those dark clouds away...

PS - Almost forgot to mention the little "treat" at the beginning and end of this song for all you old school lovers of that classic VINYL sound 8)

Man, this is just what I needed after a rough week. :)

John, you offered up a fine rough stone from which a finely polished gem has emerged. Anyone would be proud to wear it...

Andy G, is that your vocal? Nice pipes, and the melody marriage to the lyric is simply perfect, first rate stuff.

Steve, Andy D, Chuck, and Mark, the mix/master...Ab-so-slootly beautiful work... 8)

I'm just proud to say I get to hang around guys like you! ;D

Thanks Johnny,
Those sweet vocals all belong to Chuck, but Andy did indeed lay down vocals with the original melody. You can check them out here:

Well John...its finally here!!

Congratulations on completing what could have been your first collab....however it was a joy working with you and all the other guys on the song. We never lost our sense of humours and we have a few giggles at the back of John's limousine!

John a simple effective heartfelt lyric, and nicely nuanced performances from everyone. Chuck, a fine array of lead and backing vocals, you should sing more often.

Well done all, yes including you..Ringo ;)

Cheers
Andy

Johnny,

Glad you liked the song.

As John explained the dulcet tones belongs to Chuck :) - he did a grand job. John, its best if we deep six my vocal version - twas only meant to be a guide (earplugs not included ;D).

Thanks guys
Andy

Well done guys , sorry I made you wait so long for a mix ....work stuff was keeping me from it :-X

Got there in the end though, I think it was worth the wait , a real slice of retro goodness...sounds like something that would have been released when I was a kid.

Congrats to you all and your patience.

Hey Mark,

Ive got to chime in with my appreciation.

You've done a super job - the mix is absolutely first rate!! Great bass guitar tone to it  - those bass simulators are wondrous beasts.

Thanks
Andy

Way to go, John! :)  Nice little background story.  ;)  But all's well that ends well, and it's certainly done that in this tremendous collaboration. Fine performance all round, gentlemen.  :)
Really nice indeed.  :D
