Another speed rock cover, a follow-up from Ace of Spades. This is "Unchain Your Brain" is from Gillan's "Glory Road" album (1980). It was the first rock album I ever bought, at the tender age of 15.

Guitar, Bass, Vocals, Mix: George Williams (guitargeorge)
Drums: Ian Burrage (stonehead)
KeyBoards: Jay Schankman (J)

And many thanks to Andy Gupta for his moral support and participation on the way.

Lyrics:

You tell me what you're never gonna be
And I'll show you what you just can't see
If you want good living gotta grab it with your hands
If you don't, then don't bother making no plans
Free being what you want to be
Seeing what you want to see

Unchain your brain

You won't get nothing if you got no wheels
If you got no wheels you'll never know how it feels
There's no reason for the things you said
If you don't get moving you'll pretty soon be dead
Dead and forgotten
Free living the life of a king
You can have everything

Unchain your brain

Everybody fighting for a living in the street
One step back and you're out of the heat
There's just one thing when you set yorself free
You have a good time boy, but watch out for me
Free being what you want to be
Seeing what you want to see

Unchain your brain

Superb cover guys.. (I downloaded the last mix from the SA thread).... Ian , I'm surprised your studio didn't fall down during those takes... great stuff.. more cool keys j.... side to you I hadn't heard, all this honky tonkying  ;D  .... and what can I say about Lemmy? Ace guitarmanship George (is that a word?) and great sounding vocals... (I don't suppose you do Geddy Lee by any chance?)

Brilliant

Oh wow....great cover guys.

Excellent vocal Lemmy...I meant George :), and a cool sounding solo.

J - super keys part and excellent solid drumming by Ian.

A very enjoyable listen!

Look forward to the next one!

Cheers

Oh man, I have the Vinyl of that album, it's gotta be somewhere in the garage but as far as I remember is a black cover with the picture painted all in red, right?

Yeh, I recal this song and it's very weldone... Hey Ian, you are kicking seriuos arse on those drums, man.  ;D
Nice keyboards, j, just what it needs.
Cool singing and guitars, guitargeorge.
Live the best you can 'cause you're gonna be dead for a long time.

Many thanks for the kind comments regarding the drums guys and I have to say George has done a stunning job on this hasn't he ...just great stuff all through and is his own worse critic and slave driver retaking until he was happy ...great stuff George this is perfection. J man those keys are as hot as they come ....fantastic and loads of fun ....I just need to rebuild my studio before I can do any more ...I'm sure it was water damage and not structural failure due to excessive drums though.

Cheers Ian

Paulo

actually I was born in March 1965.

You described the album cover correctly, here it is

I got it on cassette. It had a free album with it called 'For Gillan Fans' only, which was also good, with elements of silliness.

Thanks for the positive feedback everyone, it's very welcome.

...and yes, I'm pretty sure guitarsmanship is a word.

Note, the mix posted here is slightly different to the one in the thread.

No - 'Trouble', a brilliant cover of the Leiber and Stoller Elvis hit was the next year as a single. A live version appeared on their 1981 album "Double Trouble" album, but it was a different guitarist by then. The studio single version is much better, it was eventually released yeasr later as an extra track on the CD version of Future Shock.

They also covered 'New Orleans', which was also brilliant.

The judge says "First offender?"
The woman says "No, first a Gibson, then a fender."
