Here's the latest tune to emerge from the Cool Beyond Zero dungeon. More or less the softer side of what the boys are churning out...just a simple storyline based on something all of us will have to deal with at some point in our lives, and a tribute to all the moms out there. Hope you you enjoy it! :)

Mamas' Dream-Traynor-2008

It's been an all night flight, rushing back to my home town
Sister made the call, Mama won't last long/better hurry-up and come around
Staring out the window at the starry sky, collecting my thoughts as the hours go by
Thinking back to the times in those growing years in that old neighbour hood of mine,
and all those childhood dreams..

Mama worked real hard, to feed and raise-up the klan,
After Papa never returned from fighting the war in Vietnam
Working 2 or 3 jobs in the night and day, their only family was an ocean away,
But she always found the time to clean a skinned knee and wipe the tears away

Growing-up on the East side was sometimes hard,
Never really had too much we could call our own,
But Mama always taught us kids to know, to cherish those things that really mattered the most, along with lots of love, another thing that we had plenty...man we had alot of dreams

I'll soon be on my way, we burried Mama today,
she gave the grandkids a smile then the angels took here home to a better place,
Her and Papa left their home back in Belfast town, to follow their dreams and build a future around this family, and now they're both looking down with angelic grace

Little brother had a plan-now he's flying freighters for Uncle Sam,
Sisters living on a farm with a brood of kids and a loving man
You could tell the satisfaction by the look in her eyes-her and Papa's dreams had materialized,Mama died with a smile and her heart was filled with a mothers' pride

Mamas' life wasn't easy...she worked real hard
Raising-up this family...had to fight alone
But in the end Mama took a last look around, with her grankids playing-jumping up and down,
And at that moment there's one thing that I'm certain,
Mama realized her dream.

Great song guys...you done a real nice job of it Marc  :)

We never finish a mix... we simply abandon them.
You can't polish a turd, but you can always spray paint it GOLD
Great songs are not written, they are re-witten

Thanks bro :) Doesn't sound like it, but between Todd and Steve, think this is another one of those 8gb 5 minute 30 plus trackers...during the mix,was getting warnings from my Intel monitoring program (for the cpu) my processor was running at dangerously hot levels...wound up bolting this big monstrous-looking manifold/massive fan to the thing...now have to run it with the side panel off as it won't fit now..sticks out an inch or so wider! ;D ;D ;D As long as my daughter doesn't erronously stick her foot inside there when she's using it, should be OK now! :D

Song sounds great...really great job on this song...the mix sounds fantastic.

Love the backup vocals.

who did the mix and was this song recorded using digital DAW...it almost sounds to warm to be digital.

This song has a "Dr hook" or perhaps "Trooper" vibe to it.

I love Dr Hook and Trooper... 8)

Hey Guys,

Great listen!!

Love the harp intro!! And a great vocal....

To my mind, has got a Stone'sy 1971-1972/Southern Rock vibe to it, with an underpinning of "I'd rather go blind" at places.

Great mix as well, vox, guitars, piano, bass and drums nicely balanced with a warm sound throughout.

Good to hear another tune from CBZ.

All the best
Andy

Thanks guys :) When I was originally humming it in my head (how I write everything really), kind of heard a bit of a motown-ish kind of vibe. I tracked the original demo just with the drum machine, bass (and I think) acoustic....had to basically let Steve know the vibe I had in mind (verbally)..kind of a "Little Wing" type of chordings (which I wouldn't have a clue on how to play ::)) and he immediately knew what I was talking about, just took the ball and ran with it. ;D
In this one (think my second mix?) I used to a great extent  tape saturation VST's to give it a warmer sound (adds natural analogue type clipping) and less "prestine" (or harsh) digital sound..there's lots of clipping, but in the anolgue sense, makes everything gel together IMO anyway ;D, although to be honest, this one pretty well just mixed itself really...guess we're getting the hang of it or something. Also Todd is using a boatload of API pre's on the drums, so I don't mess with his tracks much either, a touch of eq and thats about it (and some more tape saturationm especially on the kick and snare :D).
Later!
Marc

Congratulation! A song for the mothers and for the heart. Great!

Everytime when I listen to your songs I'm wondering how good you all play and sing together, like a real band.

thanks for the tape saturation VST comment marc...I know you dont want to give away any trade secrets however I will take what i can get.

All I can say is the tune is good and it has the 70's sound written all over it.

I couldnt write a modern song if it killed me however I will take a 70's sounding song any day of the week.

Even the guys who wrote good tunes in the 70's cant do it anymore so my hat is off to you bro.

Excellent work.

im also learning a lot just by listening to the songs your doing...the guitar tracks are intersting...they have a wobble "rolling Stones" thing going on that really works in the recording...something i need to work on myself...its more of a ying and yang type of thing...complementary opposites within a greater whole.

Thanks guys :) The people singing together so well, and the ying and yang are all Steve BTW ;D ;D ;D
As with the retro thing, it's nothing really intentional or anything like that...like Lenny Kravitz or whatever using that as a marketing tool or whatever (fake)....usually just write or play the kind of stuff I (we) like (thats why we're jamming here and not on the Billboard 100! ;D), which happens to be in that late 60's-mid-70's period I guess...which (IMO) was the pinnacle of rock. Just thinking that, in the mid-50's, R&R was do-wop and Rockablilly...shoot ahead just 10 years, and you had Revolver & Sgt.Pepper from the Beatles, Hendrix, Cream, Stones,  Purple,Bob Marley (OK, he's reggae!),Floyd and Zeppelin & Cooper coming on board with all those super groups. Think about whats evolved in the  40 years (!) since then..hmmm....U2, Duran Duran,Nirvana ,G&R...not a hell of alot really! (you can dance to some of it, thats about it) ;D ;D ;D
