Does anyone have a good (but inexpensive) mastering house they would recommend for mastering 10 songs on a CD?

We never finish a mix... we simply abandon them.
You can't polish a turd, but you can always spray paint it GOLD
Great songs are not written, they are re-witten

Rob,

I just talked with my cousin Dan Kane in Wisner, NE. He spent a ton of money on his studio years ago, has great equipment, and I trust his ear. He's interested. He normally charges $75 an hour, but he says for mastering he'll work it out with you... he doesn't watch the clock on mastering, just keeps working at it until it sounds right.

Here are some songs recorded/mixed/mastered at his studio:

And here is his website:

IT would be helpful to define 'inexpensive".  There are guys on this site that could do a good job on a limited budget.  On the other hand, there are mastering houses (Limited to mastering) who may charge less money than you'd expect.

Thanks Paul and Cary.  My budget would probably have to be less than $500 for 10 or 12 tracks.  It might be challenging because unlike typcial CD's, this one would be more like a compilation - different singers, players and genres with the only common thread being me as the songwriter.

Well, can't hurt to give Dan a call! :-) (Insert shameless cousin promotion plug here...)

Rob, I talked with Dan tonight. He'd like you to give him a call. He said he'd probably spend 12 hours on it and charge you between $300 to $400. I don't think you can beat that!

Sorry for the delay.  I'm holding off for a little longer but will certainly give him a call.  I've gotten a few other leads here also, which I much appreciate.

Just a point of comparison for your budget - everyone that does top notch work around the Nashville area is about 1000 bucks for 10-12 tracks.

I'm still deciding whether to do anything with these tracks - which are an odd collection taken as a whole - or work on all new material with a more unified artist "sound".
