Here is yet another unrequited love song -- oh the pain of loving the unattainable.  I'm sure the seeds of this song were planted in my psyche in the fifith grade when I had the hots for a sixth grader, Madonna Maxfield.  She was perfect, beautiful, and yes ... unattainable.  She remained that way throughout high school - she was a fixture of the school's basketball star and local sports hero - and I was a mere nerdy folk singer.

The middle section - what I call the bridge - has caused something of an opinion split over whether or not it serves the song well or sends it into a tail spin.  On the one hand, we have the group who rather like the bridge.  This group includes myself and well...me.  And then you have the thumbs-down group, which includes pretty much everyone else who has heard it.

So help me out -- take the poll and express your opinion.

Lyrics

Killing Me

V1
You walk in the room, and I can't breathe.
You take in the scene, but you don't see me.
I play the beggar to your bourgeoisie,
And you are beautiful, but it's killing me.

V2
Your merry court hangs on your every word,
Hollow recitations ringing most absurd.
Your headlining glory lights up the marquis.
But you are beautiful, and it's killing me.

Chorus1
I find no mercy
In this masquerade.
Truth is nothing more than a twitching blade,
It cuts us first before its sets us free, and now it's killing me.

Bridge
In a dream you take my hand
And lead my dancing feet out on the floor.
And there we glide across the surface of the world,
Lost in love's revelry,
Unwinding fantasy that grows dark as the day unfurls.
It's a stark reality,
And it's killing me.

Chorus2
I find no mercy
In this masquerade.
Truth is nothing more than a twitching blade,
It cuts us first before its sets us free, and now it's killing me.

V3
You walk in the room; I can't breathe.
You take in the scene;  you don't take me.
So, I play the fool to your generosity.
Because you are beautiful...
You are so beautiful..
You are beautiful, and it's killing me.

Way to go Rob !

I think this is a fine song, with excellent musicians....the mix didn't turn out too bad either   ;D

Works fine for me, it takes it to a different place, but it holds true to the overall feeling of the song.

Very nice by the way.

Thanks, everyone.  I had a lot of "pro" help on this and it was great fun to do it.
