1.What is the best way to make a click track?

2. What seems to work bests for tones?

3. What seems to work best  1/4 1/8 1/16 notes

4. BPM verse tempo of song ...I'm not sure if BPM more like tape speed.

Thanks for help on this subject.

Basil

In Reaper:

Select File > Project Setting > Project settings tab. Set the BPM (Beats Per Minute)

Then

A simple metronome is available under
Insert > Insert/Click Source
Hilight the resulting item and hit "Ctrl+F2" to change parameters.
Drag the edge to loop to the desired length.

Hope that helps,

nick

Hey Nick,

Is BPM = tempo of the song or is it speed of the recording software?

For a nominal fee, I could come over and pop my knuckles in time for you. I'll even bring my own mic.  ;)

I don't know if I should believe you guys or what about the cowbell.
So far I've found standard click in Reaper is a click sound, but it looks like you can install what ever sound file you want.

it was a serious suggestion. many session drummers prefer the cowbell because it really cuts through a mix. suppose there are two approaches... the cowbell, where you can always hear it over your own playing and the mix... vs. something that the tracking drummer/musician can oly hear if his/her timing is off.

Thanks Letizia.

Tricia,
I saw Christopher Walken on SNL many years ago doing the orginal cowbell skit
and that's why I thought these guys were making a cowbell joke.

that walken skit is hilarious! :)

as much as cowbell is ridiculed in the music world... as a click, it's pretty popular.
