Yes they will do a great job for the least outlay, just some basic DIY and the cost of the materials. They are not really bass traps, more broadband absorbers because they don't trap the deep bass but my garage studio is way easier to work in now, wish I'd done it years ago rather than buying more gear
Did some measurements before and after , there was quite a peak in the low mids that was clouding my mixes and I was taking too much of it out to compensate, so the mixes didn't travel as well as they should.
I also got an Auralex kit at the same time for dispersion of the HF, though if the budget is tight I'd say you'll get more milage from making the absorbers.
