I am interested in becoming a better producer and audio engineer (within the parameters of doing this as a hobby, not to make money.) I have recently read a couple of SMART guides by Bill Gibson - one on Mixing and Mastering and one on Tracking. Both were quite good, at least for someone at my level, and what I liked especially was the way the author used visual images to depecit audio technology.
What visual tools exist to examine the EQ spectrum of tracks - something that would allow you to SEE that the bass guitar and kick drum are fighting with each other, or to SEE that there is a lot of bass content in the audio. I would think this would be a good way to help my ear-training --something to reinforce visually what I am perceiving with my ears.
Does anyone use tools like this or have any recommendtions?
Thanks,
Rob T
