This is the first male verson of "No Matter What" that we finished. Some of the seps were a challenge in terms of sound quality, but I think the final result turned out quite nice nonetheless.

Thread in Studio "A":

Lyrics: Donna Devine
Vocals: Bill Wade
Bass: James Frazer
Drums: Raul Rodriguez
Acoustic Guitars, Mandoline, Strat: Derek Barlas
Tele: Larry Kendrick
Music & Production: Steffen Offermann

No Matter What

V1
I never ever wondered were you happy near me
I took life as it came
Gave no one cause to fear me
I faced whatever rolled my way at any given moment
The past was gone, the future
Still too far

Chorus
And if all I had of you was a memory
Stored in my heart's vault
I'd always hold it dear to me
No matter what

V2
I watched the way you used to stand there dreaming
Quite sure I couldn't see
The thoughts that kept you beaming
Your eyes had always been what I loved most about you
Even now, I'm thinking
Still they are

Chorus
And if all I had of you was a memory
Stored in my heart's vault
I'd always hold it dear to me
No matter what

Bridge (instrumental)

Chorus
And if all I had of you was a memory
Stored in my heart's vault
I'd always hold it dear to me
No matter what

This is a lovely song Steffen. Donna's lyrics always make us put on our best suit.

Production is quite retro but it sets the mood nicely and the arrangement and performances are well done.

I enjoyed the listen.

Thanks for listening, Billy! Retro is my second name. :D The more retro it sounds the better. :)

BTW, this is the female version:

This turned out really well, Steffen. :) Bill did a fine job with the vocals. I love the male version. (The lyric was written with male vox in mind. ;))

A big thanks to you, and to Bill, James, Raul, Derek, and Larry for creating this little gem. :)  (You know how much I've always loved that melody of yours. ;) )

I'm so glad we finally finished the (first) male version, Donna. I do like the female version too, but I know you have always wanted this song to be performed by a male singer. Great to have both versions now. :)

I wish we'd create more "folk-pop" stuff like this here at MCS. When I composed the original music, I had an "England Dan & J.C. Foley" vibe in mind.

Nice song Steffen..It reminded me of something.

I had to trawl my memory to think what it was...then I decided it didn't really sound that much like what it reminded me off  ;D

There's just a few notes at the start of the chorus though that put me in mind of Badhead by Blur

I like them both !

We never finish a mix... we simply abandon them.
You can't polish a turd, but you can always spray paint it GOLD
Great songs are not written, they are re-witten

I just spent some time trying to get the seps under better control. The mix in the first post has been replaced:
