A folk/celtic/jazz/rock/pop song!

Lyrics: Paul Dempsey (pvd)
Drums, Bass, Mandolin, Banjo, Acoustic Guitar, Slide Guitar: Henry Mittnacht (docmidnite)
Electric Lead Guitar: Michael Woodford (snowdoguk)
Accordian: Gary Miller (gbm)
Vocals, Mix: George Williams (napoleonboot)

We created this song for a contest on Kompoz. We used some seps from "Beautiful Liar", a soft jazz instrumental number by Brian Culbertson: strings, percussion, electric rhythm guitar. His original sounded very different! The contest hasn't closed yet. If you want to hear the original number by Brian Culbertson hear other entries see: http://www.kompoz.com/music/contest/culbertson.

Silk Sheets

(v1)
Your body bends like a tree in the wind
Never breaking, but breath taking
And your hair, so soft and flowing
I think it’s time for love making

(v2)
Come take my hand and feel my desire
The heat, the love, all for you
Come rest your head on my chest
Listen to my heart beat, all for you

(chorus)
Silk sheets and you
So soft, so cool
And you so warm
Silk sheets and you
A silent storm
Ready to blow
Yes I know
Yes I know

George can often be found playing stringy things, and singing...

Nice job all! I think this will win.  :) :) :) :)

There are 3 categories in which to win:

Best overall collaboration
Best collaboration featuring at least one new Kompoz member
Best collaboration featuring 5 or more Kompoz members

"Silk Sheets" fits all 3 categories.

Everyone:

It was fasinating watch this develop and watch how much effort each of you put in.  Thanks for giving the lyric a shot.  Lyrics to me can be very easy, but what you guys do with them completes a very wonderful chain for me.

I think we have a great chance!   WWW

Cool song, and I did not know that Rockin' Henry has (and plays) a banjo and a mandolin too.

Ah, that Kompoz contest. I never participate in contests, so this somehow went past me. What exactly was that contest about anyway? And did you win? :)

Oh, I just noticed, it seems to be still running ...

  Steffen

This was a blast and fun collab!!!!!!!!!
All of us guys were highly concentrated and gave our best and it really turned out great and unexpected (listen to the original elevator-jazz-ballad LOL)
Sorry for that tuning problem again... I´m working on it ;)

@Steffen: Just pretending... LOL. I used my Line 6 Variax 700 guitar which - besides "normal" acoustic guitars- provides also modelt 12-string, mandolin, Banjo, Sitar, Dobro, Shemen etc... The only "job" was, playing like one of these intruments would be played...  ;)

Good enough for me - I can't tell the difference anyway. ;)

Great job guys...Good Luck with the competition...a good song with good vocals and arrangement and strong performances

I like the sound of the Variax, the emulations sound quite realistic don't they ?

My only nitpick is that the vocals get quite heavily stepped on by some of those banjo/mandolin type sounds especially in the chorus.  It just needs some more work on the EQ of those so it doesn't compete with George's vocal so much.

CD

We never finish a mix... we simply abandon them.
You can't polish a turd, but you can always spray paint it GOLD
Great songs are not written, they are re-witten

Nice job Doc, the banjo sounds like a real banjo, the mandolin also sounds real. It was fun working on this and getting the intro just right!

Great solo Mike! Great vocals and mix George! Great lyrics Paul! This is a winner!

So far there are 22 entries, I think Silk Sheets is #1.

How good was that!! 8)
Mumford and Sons are a little scared now  >:D

Doc, I may need some harmonica for my next song. Would it be possible for you to do me a little ....Oh hang on, I have just read the credits and you can't play the Harmonica. How sh*t is that! Call yourself a musician!!! Lucky for you that George did a typically outstanding vocal performance with Paul's (pvd) lyrics. Otherwise it would have been exposed that you needed Gary (gbm) to get that Accordian right.....
Michael's (snowdoguk) sweet melodies on his lead guitar were sublime as always. But I think you are slacking, of the six string instruments to think about, you only chose five. Why did you desert the lead, that sixth string instrument!!!??? Surely any normal creative musician wouldn't shy away from the sixth string instrument.

Of course they won't because they are excitedly preparing and hearing how it will work with their busily prepared but very important drum track. The one track that gels everything together (well done btw) 8)

What a good mix this is George. I love it.  Really good.  8)

Seriously what a fantastic effort everybody. Bloody brilliant !!! ;D ;D 8) 8) ;D ;D
