Limiters vs. Maximizers

Well, I know the theory, but I don't understand... I can have loud mixes with a limiter, so what's the diference in using a limiter or a maximizer?

Aren't those terms interchangeable? The Waves limiter calls itself a maximizer, and I'm pretty sure all it does is limit.

Some guys say those are diferente processors... They say the maximizer adds some artifacts like harmonics and usualy they're multiband processors...
... The limiters are supposed to be clean and add no coloration to the sound, so they say...
... The fact is that there's gotta be some difference because Steinberg platforms like Cubase or Nuendo, comes with both... I see no difference at all
