Time for a little bit of retro sound again! This lyric by Paul inspired me to try a 70s disco-ish song, and thanks to Mark and Andy it turned out quite nicely in the end.

Thanks everybody, and I hope you'll enjoy the listen!

Lyrics: Paul Dempsey
Vocals, Guitars: Mark A. Shrider
Bass: Andy Gupta
Music & Mix: Steffen Offermann

NIGHTFALL
(Paul Dempsey)

Sometimes you can be high
Sometimes you can be low
But you hustle the day
Just fitting in the flow

And when you got a woman
You need to satisfy
Sometimes you cheat
Sometimes you lie

Life can be so hard
It can drop you to your knees
It can make you crawl
Some days can be so long
You cry for nightfall
Cry for nightfall

And always you keep trying
Betting all the games
Hey your luck has gone south
But you’re sure it’s gonna change

Where under the cover of darkness
The pain will begin to ease
But you still got that woman
That needs to be pleased

Maybe hang out on the corner
Where anything goes
Where the boys play for keeps
And everyone knows
An insult will mess up your clothes

Hey Guys,

Thoroughly enjoyed this collaboration - done super fast too, just the way I like it.

Steffen - fantastic musical arrangement, got us all grooving the moment we heard it. Very nice choice of bed instrumentation.

Mark - you really brought it up several nothces with your guitars, and a really good vocal.

Paul - another fabulous piece of writing, I can imagine Steffen being instantly inspired to write this music once he looked at your lyric. I really like the line "an insult can mess up your clothes"!!

Thanks for letting me play.

Andy

nice to see another collab done.
it's funny that this stuff is so out of my element but i like taking these kinds of tunes and kicking them up a notch with a hard rock guitar and vocal.
to me that's the beauty of collabing...combining styles that might not otherwise find their way together.
plus i find Steffen's material usually easy to grasp and find the pocket to play in.
and of course Paul's lyrics are always top notch.
and there's Andy laying down the groove.
i think it turned out quite well.
thanks for letting me be a part.
rock-n-roll ain't pretty --- that's why they picked us to play it.

Tks for giving this one a chance, it turned out well, I really like the the chorus.  Mark you done well on this, maybe out of your zone, but it works well.

  • Professionalism is an attitude
Sort of Black Sabbath go disco.  ;D

Strange blend but I like it. Nice one, guys.

Thanks, Billy!

Yes, it's an unusal combination, but it seems to work. I was originally looking for a typical 70s wah guitar, but I never said that explicitly, so this is what became of it. :)

Thanks again to Paul, Andy and Mark!

Regards,
  Steffen

Wow... This one didn't take long to complete.

Great job by all!!

Mark... your guitar work sort of reminds me of Mark Knopfler in spots (compliment).

Thanks for listening, Frank and Gary!

Just heard this on Mark's youtube channel

Mark has a YouTube channel?

... just had a look - there is nothing on that channel. Where did you find it, Gary?

Oh!!! Nice combination  ;D

Yeh, the guitar sounds like "Money ain't for nothing" in some spots.

thanks for the listen & compliments.
it's a lot of fun pushing myself to do tunes outside my comfort zone --- even if that means i have to drag it into the hard rock realm.

I think you invented a new sub-genre  ;D

it works though, quite a catchy little number
