i totally agree Andy.
if i don't have anything of value to add like a tip or suggestion to help improve it criticism seems pointless.
sometimes I'm not sure what's wrong or as Steffen said i don't know how to explain it.
and sadly my wife isn't a big fan of my music either - she likes more r&b or Michael Buble type stuff.
but i can usually count on brutal honesty from her - and i can tell when she's trying to sugar coat it...she's not a good liar.

rock-n-roll ain't pretty --- that's why they picked us to play it.

LOL!  Really, I did peak in yesterday.  I wish I had more time for music as most of us do but guess we have to set our priorities.  I don't mind the hijacking and yes Andy I don't come here as often as I should because it seems there aren't too many people to collab with these days!!  Not like the good 'ol days for some reason.  But, it's probably just me.

I do agree with the point that many people don't respect your opinion too much if they don't think you are an authority.  When I sometimes comment with my opinion, I have frequently gotten the cold shoulder, I won't say necessarily here, but yes here too, in the form of no response or my post completely overlooked.  I may not know much about the instrumental parts but I do have an opionion on whether I like it or not as the "audience".  I therefore, don't comment much any more, but I do listen as much as I can.  Therefore, if I don't comment, I don't expect comments back.

Regarding Steffen's comment about the mix .... it's never done ... and Steffen is proof of that hahaha!  So, anytime a comment is warranted, it shouldn't matter what stage it is at, it can always be better.  It's more a matter of what you can live with.  And, that goes for the lyric too.  There are many times I would have liked to edit the words after the fact, but darn if the singer wants to sing again once they've moved onto another project.  I think it's easier to remix than re-create.

@Mark, not sure why you guys have wife's who don't like your music but it seems to be a common theme, didn't you play for them while you were dating :):)

Cheers all and thanks for the comments and the dialogue.

Thanks a bunch Holger, I haven't seen you around much either :)

i think with the case of my wife is that her taste has changed a bit over the years.
yeah she used to come watch me play in bands but there was a point when that stopped being fun for her.
today she primarily listens to christian radio (k-love) but from her childhood that 70s singer songwriter stuff, disco, and r&b still delights her. plus she likes that Buble guy.
not a fan of the hard rock stuff much anymore.
she's mellowed out quite a bit as she's gotten older and since she is older than me i tell her she's my ol' lady :D

Thanks for the insight Mark :).  I guess my tastes have change a lot too.  I never used to like Jazz and now I like it a lot.  But ... there is something about rock that inspires me to write like no other style.  It has to do with the unique ability to get out my anger and frustration.  IMO, it's the most emotional form of music, at least to me, probably because that's what I grew up listening to.

In order for me to write Jazz, I have to listen to rock and then tame it (with my whip hahah)!!!

Cheers ... Casia

Hi Mark:

Thanks for asking about the bass, I didn't realize I missed putting it down.  The guy who mixed and mastered the song did the bass as well.  This is an off-site song.

We never finish a mix... we simply abandon them.
You can't polish a turd, but you can always spray paint it GOLD
Great songs are not written, they are re-witten

LOL, thanks CD, glad you got something out of it.  Think I had a "running" theme in some of my songs.  Hmmm, what was I running from?
