I got the idea for this song over the holidays when I had to buy a tux for a party put on by the boy friend of my daughter. In talking about my tux-buying and tux-wearing experience with a friend, she mentioned that when she was in college, people used to refer to a 'Canadian Tuxedo' as being a denim jacket and matching denim jeans. So, I expanded on that idea.

Verse 1
My baby likes to go out on the town,
And dress up in her pearls and fancy things.
And man, she sure looks pretty,
But this ain't New York City,
And I don't do much with black tie, tails or other manly bling.
Chorus
But put a spit shine on my best pair of Tony Lamas,
Wax my leather coat and matching vest.
And make a smart selection
From my Stetson hat collection,
And grab my silver bolo tie and silver Ro-de-o
Belt buckle - it all looks fabulous with Levis.
Then a pearly-button shirt is all I need, oh
To look just about as good
As any cowboy could
In my Oklahoma tuxedo.
Verse 2
If the day comes when your honey drops a hint
That your wardrobe isn't everything she'd hoped.
If every word she speaks is trashin'
Your ideas of higher fashion,
Well, this is what you do to get that stray steer roped--
Chorus 2
Just put a spit shine on your best pair of Tony Lamas,
Wax your leather coat and matching vest.
Make with thoughtful predilection
A haberdashery selection,
Get a silver bolo tie and silver Ro-de-o
Belt buckle - it will look simply stunning with your Levis.
Then a pearly-button shirt is all you need - whoa!
To look just about as good
As anybody could
In your Oklahoma tuxedo.
Last Refrain
This is my fashion credo.
Do I dress just for success? Well, heck no!
I dress to be myself
And not anybody else
In my Ok-la ... down-homa tuxedo.
