I got the idea for this song over the holidays when I had to buy a tux for a party put on by the boy friend of my daughter.  In talking about my tux-buying and tux-wearing experience with a friend, she mentioned that when she was in college, people used to refer to a 'Canadian Tuxedo' as being a denim jacket and matching denim jeans.  So, I expanded on that idea.

Song Credits:
Bass: Davidinoz (Australia)
Drums: David Sanger (drummer for Asleep at the Wheel)
Fiddle and Mandolin: Stevie Blacke (California)
Telecaster Guitar: Mike Puwal (Nashville)
Vocals: Paul T. Bathen (TallPaul)
Acoustic Guitar: Rob Talbert (Appleluza)

Mixing and Mastering: DavidinOz

Lyrics:
words and music Robert N. Talbert, 2008

Verse 1
My baby likes to go out on the town,
And dress up in her pearls and fancy things.
And man, she sure looks pretty,
But this ain't New York City,
And I don't do much with black tie, tails or other manly bling.

Chorus
But put a spit shine on my best pair of Tony Lamas,
Wax my leather coat and matching vest.
And  make a  smart selection
From my Stetson hat collection,
And grab my silver bolo tie and silver Ro-de-o
Belt buckle - it all looks fabulous with Levis.
Then a pearly-button shirt is all I need, oh
To look just about as good
As any cowboy could
In my Oklahoma tuxedo.

Verse 2
If the day comes when your honey drops a hint
That your wardrobe isn't everything she'd hoped.
If every word she speaks is trashin'
Your ideas of higher fashion,
Well, this is what you do to get that stray steer roped--

Chorus 2
Just put a spit shine on your best pair of Tony Lamas,
Wax your leather coat and matching vest.
Make with thoughtful predilection
A haberdashery selection,
Get a silver bolo tie and silver Ro-de-o
Belt buckle - it will look simply stunning with your Levis.
Then a pearly-button shirt is all you need - whoa!
To look just about as good
As anybody could
In your Oklahoma tuxedo.

Last  Refrain
This is my fashion credo.
Do I dress just for success? Well, heck no!
I dress to be myself
And not anybody else
In my Ok-la ... down-homa tuxedo.

Nice job Rob. It's as much about getting the talent together as writing the song.

The gang sounds great! Nice vocals by Paul. Lot's of pickers.

Dave - nice job on the production.

This is a great song...very tongue in cheek...Normally I'm not much  fan of Country Music but I love this and it's going straight on the Ipod and into the car.

Paul you have the perfect voice for this and Rob came up with a great set of lyrics....Davidinoz has done a top notch mix too.

Well done all , you should enter this into some songwriting competition...it's too good to just sit on a shelf at home.

CD
We never finish a mix... we simply abandon them.
You can't polish a turd, but you can always spray paint it GOLD
Great songs are not written, they are re-witten

Whoa, Paul is right, I posted the wrong lyrics.  I'll fix them later today.  Late for church now.

  • Damn I wish I still looked this good...
Thanks all for the mix comments.

Hey Rob are you gonna credit the bass player? I know he's a bit sloppy but he means well ;D

Sorry David, another oversight.  This is what happens when I rush to get something done before leaving for another appointment.  Fixed now.  Changed credit for Paul.  Fixed lyrics.
