I had to wait for my wife's late flight at the airport and picked up a Maximum PC mag. they had an arty on tools. Some of there are very interesting like BartPE will is a GUI to take your existing Windoze installation and build a bootable CD so you can boot from the CD and install your OS back to the same state. I'm still investigating exactly how it picks up hotfixes and service packs but from I can tell it does. If you want apps installed you nned to make plugin which is sort of an installer but the way I see it, it could remove serval steps when I need to rebuild my PC. Right now you have to install the OS and then get all the updates and several reboots later you can then start installing your apps.  It would be nice to boot a CD,  install the OS and then install your apps. It even has a way to automate the installation of 3rd party drivers that require you to press F8 on the text part of the setup. Anyway check out http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder and the latest Maximum PC.

does it save all you drivers as well, or do you have to re-downlaod them and install them when you boot from the custom boot CD?
