Hi everybody! Here is a song I wrote in 2009 and then got an all-star cast to help me out here at MC. My thanks to all the people who participated, commented, you name it! Here are the credits for the final mix:

Yolande Strauss (South Africa): Vocals
Billy Playle (England): Orchestral arrangement
Jay Schankman (USA): Piano
Brad Denney (USA): Elec guitar
Sabrina Doughty: Background vocals
Biab (software): Bass, Drums
Child vocals from http://soundbible.com/tags-child.html (free)
Paul T. Bathen (USA): Composition, Lyrics, Direction, Arrangement, Background Vocals, Mix

Special thanks to Preston and Jwoo for posting up auditions!

I have attached two versions of the song: the rough draft with me singing (so you can get an idea how far the song has come), and the final draft with the incredible vocals of Yolande!

Paul

"My Lost Child"
Copyright 2009 Paul T. Bathen

(Verse 1)
On the streets
My lost child
Are you on the streets?
When nighttime falls
Where do you rest/sleep?
Are you cold?
Are you tired?
Are you alone?
Are you alive?
My lost child.

(Verse 2)
So many years
You've been gone so many years
Only God could count these tears
I have cried
But I pray every day for
My lost child

(Bridge)
I talk to myself
And to your scattered pictures
(Surrounding me with (such) joy)/(They surround me with such joy)
And with such pain
How can (so much) guilt exist
With/beside so much anger?
On the world, on (my) God, (on)/(and) myself
I lay/place this blame.

(Verse 3)
Memories
I have such haunting memories
But these ghosts they follow me
When I awake
I see you laugh
Then I hear you cry
My lost child
My lost child

This turned out beautifully, Paul.   :)  So poignant. It could be an anthem for the many - far too many - people who've lost their children to the streets.

Wonderfully performed, with skill and grace. Tremendous production all round.  :)
