Title: I Dread Daybreak
Post by: Sharpola on December 18, 2007, 08:17:09 PM
Done!!  :D
I just bought another ovation and tryed a lead with it on the tune instead of a rap which turned out harder to get done than anything, I think it worked out rather well
Pretty easy tune to do with vocals like Ali provided :)

Lyrics - PVD
Music - Sharpola, Ali Kat
Vocals - Ali Kat

I Dread Daybreak

(V1)
For me ...
My sleep is a welcome relief
Dreams are deep but far too brief
And even harder to recall

(V2)
For me ...
Darkness comes in shrouded veils
Night's anthems it never fails
Seems I always hear their call

(Chorus)
When darkness fades
It raises the shades
On my heartache
Lord, I dread daybreak
Lord, I dread daybreak

Tell me ...
When you close your eyes of blue
Do you suppose I'm thinking of you
As darkness begins to fall

(Bridge)
I'm not afraid to face the lonely night
But how do I evade the morning light
Without you ...

(Chorus)
When darkness fades
It raises the shades
On my heartache
Lord, I dread daybreak
Lord, I dread daybreak

This is one of the best collaborations I've heard here at MCS.  Vocals, arrangement, lyrics, everything came together perfectly.  I'd love to see more of this type of music produced here.

Awww, this sounds great! A pleasure helping make it happen.  Great lyrics to work with.

Ali/Ray:

I had to listen to this a few times to get the old version out of my head, I like this one.  It is very smooth.  Thanks for the opprotunity to be involved.

Hey You finished it !

Sounds great - I love it.....It's my number one vote for MC Artists VolII

The new guitar solo works much better than the other one...

I know the rap thing wasn't working but I'd already sent the bed without the solo to a rapper I've been in contact with about two weeks ago, he's definitely supposed to be sending me something back ( eventually ?? )  at some point, so I'm not sure what to do now.

If I do end up getting it back maybe I'll just put it up on the Studio A thread.

Nice job. Great vox! Fit like a glove! Ali have you done some heavy rock stuff?
Your voice sort of reminds me of Evenescence. (I prolly butchered the spelling)

I haven't done much heavy rock, but I'm not against doing it.  I've written lyrics for some, but haven't really sung any yet.  Thanks for the compliments.  I really loved doing this song.  With such great lyrics it was hard not to be inspired.

CD I'd really like to hear that rap as well.

I listened to this prior.

Here is my comment or feedback.

I love this version. The Reggae feel with the acoustic guitar.  The drums on demand sound fantastic and they should.  The mix is excellent and it is really a cool tune. The voice is really cool. Vocal wise for future project Ali just what the in places. Maybe have a few more runs at it. Other than that Ray really delivered. So did the others.

Great Work

Congrats.

Check out the rap I got a guy to lay on it.  Let me know what ya'll think.  He goes by Ballstar.  I think he nailed the lyrics for it.  BUt, I am probably going to play around with the vocal seps a bit, see if I can't get it to "fit in" to the song a bit better.

I thought you'd have Ludacris himself working on it by now  :)

That's really good Ali...like it

I think you just need to work on the ending where you come back in

haha, I wish....I thought the same thing about the end of the rap. I also think it may sound better with just one of the vocal tones with some thickness.  He's gonna get me the seps and I'll play around with it for awhile...see what comes of it, and I'll repost it here when I am done.

It struck me that the rap should be 8 bars instead of 12.  There's something odd about it being 12 bars, and it feels a bit long.

This song makes me feel good every time I hear it.

I like it... very cool! my (our) first rap tune :)

Ali could I have the seps as well? I'd like to try my hand at making it transend to the outro part as well :)

absolutley, I really am not very good at that sort of thing...but I was willing to try to get my vision acrossed a bit better than he did.  I'll get them to you as soon as I have them myself!

Ali Kat

glad ya liked it.

Ali/Ray:

I have been listening to this quite a few times to try to get the overall feel.  I think Ballstar did a pretty good job.  I'm still trying to get my head around it.  If you guys like it, I am fine with it.  I still may listen to and prefer the earlier version, that's just me.

This rap is really growing on me, all 12 bars.  I'm going to take back what I said earlier.  It's great the way it is.

Sounds pretty cool. I'd like to here the rap a little more defined.

Nice job.

Okay I played with the rap.  He only gave me a mixed vocal sep...so I wasn't able to split the tones...but I still played with it how I could.  Let me know what you think.  I tried to improve the end of the rap.  I did a little echoing in spots.   And, I thickened his vocals up to fit a bit better in the song.   Ray, if you still want the seps let me know...though I know it would've been nicer to have both takes seperately....but ya get what ya get for now.

I'd still like the seps to save with the project if I could :)

If this was played on the radio I wouldn't be able to recognize it as being homerecorded. Great work!
