Billy says: Those odd little quirks are what makes this site so.........irresistible! |
Reba1994 says: Thank you |
Albino says: yes, thanks guys |
Stoney says: Well done guys |
AndyG6508 says: Hear Hear!!! Thanks to Mark and NickT for all the care and hard work in keeping this site alive. |
NickT says: I want to thanks Gerk (Mark) for taking time this Mothers Day Weekend to play Whac-a-mole with the forum software and keeping the site going. We have decided to baby this site along until Mark has time to implement MCS 2.0. Hang in there. I am so glad many of you are back making music here. |
Gerk says: Never used the local storage option. Not only does it not work correctly, it's a very bad option in the first place that SMF probably should have never tried to use. Same holds true for their database session approach. |
usalabs says: Hey Gerk, I think this may work for a long time, because I checked the cookie storage in my browser, and this site now only sends out just the one cookie, whereas before, it sent out 2, so I presume you disabled local storage in the server settings, which I read about doesn't work if enabled when using SSL. |
Gerk says: I've kicked it again, sessions are working. Not sure for how long. One last hail mary attempt at a fix, but I'm thinking that this software might be nearing EOL. Stand by folks, will have to consider how to move this forward. |
Gerk says: None of the custom collaboration code will work with any newer versions of this software, this is where the issue lies. The hack that we had to load for it to work with modern PHP seems to have caused some issues with this and I'm at a loss. I've tried the GC adjustments usalabs, nothing seems to help. It might be time to retire this forum software. |
usalabs says: All these errors means it's crying out for an upgrade to a newer version |
NickT
says: An Error Has Occurred! Session verification failed. Please try logging out and back in again, and then try again. |
NickT says: Yes, I see that. I can't get to the admin page, so please standby. |
Reba1994 says: Everything I try and send just gives me an automatic time out message no matter the browser I use |
usalabs says: Gerk, as a fellow 'geek', I noticed you're using SSL, and you mentioned you have a session directory, have you tried disabling the local session storage in the SMF server settings? |
usalabs
says: Gerk, I found out something, you said in your post about site stalling, that you renamed the cookie, it seems it didn't work, this site sends out 2 cookies and they haven't changed since forever. Even after clearing cache and cookies, the names of those 2 cookes from this site haven't changed at all. |
Errol says: Me too. |
Albino says: I am also having problems posting. I too get the "session timed out try re-submit" |
usalabs says: For anyone that's having problems with logging out, completely clear 'ALL' your browser cookies, this will log you out, but some times there's cookies stored that you don't want to clear, but there are procedures to only delete certain cookies, but it's a lengthy process. |
Mimmo says: I get this when I click on to log out....Session verification failed. Please try logging out and back in again, and then try again. |
Mimmo says: Hi guys...Anyone else having this problem? Since last night I can't log out |
usalabs
says: Gerk, this is the only means of posting I can do. I read you 'Site Stalling' post and as a fellow geek, I was wondering if your PHP garbage collection is server side or from the php.ini? IE, a setting in php.ini can be overridden by the underlaying OS, such as Ubuntu sets the php.ini setting:- session.gc_probability And set it to 0, overriding the php.ini setting, then uses a cronjob to tidy up the garbage. This link is about the PHP garbage collection and how to optimize it. https://tideways.com/profiler/blog/php-session-garbage-collection-the-unknown-performance-bottleneck |
usalabs says: Gerk, I see you're using an ancient version of SMF, 1.1.21, have you looked into version 2.0.17 the most recent stable release? You can try it without affecting this forum, by install AMPPS a windows app, that has 50+ PHP scripts that you can test out, before deploying on a live site, along with mysql, Apache, and PHP all bundled into one install folder,,, there is no separate install, and mysql runs as a standalone, controlled by the AMPPS control panel. |
usalabs
says: Attempting to logout gets this:- Session verification failed. Please try logging out and back in again, and then try again. Attempting to post, reply, send PM, or quoting, gets this message:- Your session timed out while posting. Please try to re-submit your message. No matter if I clear cookies, restart any of the browsers and even restart the computer it makes no difference at all. |
