Here is a song in four flavors. All four versions are based on a simple synth bedtrack I had done. The first step towards turning it into a real song was done when Bill joined and applied his guitar magic to it, replacing my fake synth guitars and adding lots of new stuff. Then both George and Mark created their own vocal melodies using the same lyric by Paul, and we even had two great drummers, Todd and Marcel wanting to play on it. Andy was so kind to do the bass, and I tried my best to put all the pieces together.

Living In Sin

Vocals:
George Williams (version A & B) , Mark A. Shrider (version C & D)

Lyrics:
Paul Dempsey

Drums:
Todd Vierra (version A & C), Marcel Hoeker (version B & D)

Bass:
Andy Gupta

Guitars:
Bill Gifford

Composed by:
Steffen Offermann (original music)
George Williams (vocal melody version A & B)
Mark A. Shrider (vocal melody version C & D)

Mix & Master:
Steffen Offermann

You seemed to have all the answers
I never questioned you
I followed your every move
Thought love would see us through

Nothing was out of our reach
We grabbed every brass ring
We challenged everything
You were the queen, I was your king

We were young
Never listen to anyone
We were wild and free
A little misunderstood
Living in sin
And feeling so good

Sometimes my mind goes back
To those early years
I often think of you
And the dreams that disappeared

Then reality started creeping in
You weren't working, just sleeping in
Our lives grew dull, we were in a rut
Your words got sharp and began to cut

I listened to all four thinking i would be able to choose which one was my favorite but i can't.
there are great things different about each one i like.
I have to say that i especially like George's chorus --- reminds me of Neil Diamond.
Originally i did a vocal take simply to give an idea for someone else to do better.
But with Steffen's encouragement it looks like I've completed my first vox collab --- might be the start of something.
Still not comfortable with my voice though.
It was Bill's guitar that drew me in.
Thanks for letting me be a part.
Everybody did a fantastic job.

Thanks...

Mark

Mark, your voice sounds great and suits the song perfectly. And so does George's voice. I'm glad and proud to have you both in the team.

In fact all the guys have outdone themselves, if you want my opinion. Who would have guessed that from the original synth demo.

And, Mark, feel free to sing on any of my collabs.

Regards,
  Steffen

Hi Steffen,

All the versions turned out terrific!!! Amazing performances from everyone involved in the different takes.

Great production Steffen and thanks again for setting up my bass to sound good against all the other parts.

Everyone:

They all turned out well, their different enough to make them all unique and enjoyable.  Mark glad to be involved with your first vocal, it worked well.
GG your take was very good as usual.
Todd, Marcel, Bill and Andy, quite a gathering of the great talent here on the site, you guys made it all work.
Steffen you put in a lot of work on these and it shows.

In my younger days, living in sin meant that two people lived together and they were not married.  Quite a big deal back then, not so much now.

Guys, tks for giving the lyric a chance.

Paul

Great stuff - as close as I've ever got to motown LOL!
George can often be found playing stringy things, and singing...

Cool track.

Overall Favourite version is 'B' - I prefer the more open sounding mix, version A sounds quite 'dull' tonally

I also dig Todd's drums on versions A & C , I think they fill out the chorus parts really well.

CD

We never finish a mix... we simply abandon them.
You can't polish a turd, but you can always spray paint it GOLD
Great songs are not written, they are re-witten
